With this stage the Alta Via Canavesana enters the Gran Paradiso National Park. From the hamlet of Villa di Ceresole Reale (50 minutes from Villa Poma) follow the signs of the path for Lake Lillet. Pass through a larch wood and climb up to Alpe Pisson (2082 m). The ascent continues first under a rocky crag, then passes Alpe del Medico (2474 m) and reaches the wide Strada Reale (Royal hunting road) that connects Colle della Terra with Colle della Porta, just to the east of the pretty Lago Lillet at 2765 metres. (3.30 hours from the hamlet of Mua). Follow the road to the right over scree (snowy sections until late in the season) to reach Colle della Porta 3002 m. From the pass, the Strada Reale descends with a few twists and turns on the opposite side through snowfields and scree towards Bivacco Giraudo. At an altitude of about 2700 m when the mule track bends to the right, leave it and continue left along tracks (signs) that go between the large blocks of a scree to Lago della Piatta and the nearby Bivacco Giraudo at 2630 m (it sleeps 6, is always open and water is nearby).
