Take the path between the houses of the village of Montagne Seu and climb the slope in a north-eastern direction. Cross meadows and a thick Swiss pine forest (Piccolo Bosco) until you reach the junction with the Sentiero dei Cannoni (Cannon Trail), which you follow uphill towards Assietta. Go along the military road eastwards and you will reach Testa dell'Assietta (2566 m), where a memorial stone and traces of the defence works of the entrenched camp recall the historic battle of 19th July 1747 between Piedmontese, Austrian and Waldensian troops and the French army that was attempting to bypass the forts of Exilles and Fenestrelle. The Casa Assietta alpine refuge is open here in the summer months. Just before Colle dell'Assietta, the GTA turns right and descends across the meadows to the Bergerie dell'Assietta (sheep pens at 2150 m) and the little village of Cerogne (1740 m). After crossing the steep pastures of Vallette valley, you reach Balboutet (1557 m) and then Usseaux (1446 m).
