Highlights and tour details
Leave the church of the hamlet of Serre di Oncino (about 1225 m) behind you and go down for about thirty metres on the asphalt road until you turn left, continuing on a slightly flat stretch (about 250 m). When you reach a crossroads, leave the fork on the left to follow the dirt road that is a long - and fairly open - flat stretch that leads to the houses in Magalun (about 1235 m). Continuing further on, the vegetation becomes thicker; the road narrows, although it is still quite practicable, and with a long traverse along the hillside, it crosses a small stream where there is the intake work (about 1250 m) which the water flows into it and from here on, flows into the pipes of the already known covered canal, which for a very long stretch will accompany our route downstream or upstream towards Oncino. The walk continues by constantly flanking the canal downstream; cross the bridge (upstream of which, another intake work can be seen on the right side of the stream), leaving just beyond it on the left, the deviation that goes up sharply towards the village of Arlongo, and continue right, always flanking the canal, until a subsequent crossroads downstream of an old abandoned mill, Lou Moulin dal Parcou. The track on the left approaches the building and then climbs up towards the rural centre of Arlongo, while the track on the right (downstream of the mill), where the Orizzonte Monviso itinerary continues, passes exactly above the canal. The route progressively narrows down into a path and runs along the wooded side of the hillside until it reaches a more open area, passing through the houses of the village of S. Ilario (about 1260 m). The trail gradually widens again above the canal and with a route that is almost always flat, crosses stretches of lovely beech woods, crosses the ridge passing downstream of the centre of Serre Guglielmo, crosses the Daina stream - which divides the previous village from Ruetto upstream - and finally reaches the houses of the village of Fantone downstream of the main road, which is reached by a short climb (about 1265 m). Follow the asphalt road (leaving the fork on the left uphill towards the locality of Bigorie) that in about 1 km of winding descent reaches the square of the municipality of Oncino after having flanked the parish church (about 1220 m). The main road descends downstream heading south - west, whereas the route of Orizzonte Monviso continues to the left and slips narrowly between the houses of the village along the narrow little road that climbs steeply to the village of Saret, where the asphalt road ends (about 1280 m) and an interesting panorama opens over the entire southern side of the valley, along which the second half of the O.M. route winds.
A wide and almost flat dirt road – directions for S. Giacomo - (ignore the secondary branch off to the left slightly uphill) runs halfway up the slope, until it crosses a small side valley coming from M. Cialancie (1635 m); the cartroad, which winds at times through a suggestive wood, climbs slightly uphill just before reaching the open and pretty grassy depression where the ruins of the Church of S. Giacomo (about 1345 m) can be found. The track becomes a wide mule track, goes over the ridge and continues first on a slight descent along a very pleasant stretch among tall birch trees, then on a flat stretch, finally with some short climbs it reaches and crosses the Combale Brusà which precedes the right fork by about 80 m (about 1325 m) downhill towards the homonymous locality. Ignore this diversion and continue through the tall wood, alternating some more accentuated climbs with short sloping stretches, until you reach an area where the vegetation becomes much thicker, in correspondence with a couple of hairpin bends with irregular terrain that shortly afterwards lead to the diversion to the left for Meire Marco (approx. 1425 m). A last short stretch leads downstream of the huts joining just a little further on along to the wide mule track coming from Crissolo (about 1440 m). Continue to the right on easy level ground along a pleasant beech wood that passes by the Padre Picco Fountain, until you reach a junction a little further along at a hairpin bend (approx. 1420 m): the uphill left fork leads to M. Tivoli (also called Bric Arpiol at 1792 m), the downhill right fork leads to Crissolo and with a series of hairpin bends it quickly loses altitude until it leaves the wooded area to reach the bridge over the Rio Sbarme (approx. 1340 m) shortly after. There are a little less than 150 m from the village of Crissolo where the dirt road joins the paved municipal road near a hairpin bend upstream of some condominiums. You go down gradually between the houses, pass the departure place of the chairlift and reach the bridge over the river Po shortly after; once over the bridge, go left slightly uphill reaching the main square of Crissolo (approx. 1330 m).
