Highlights and tour details
From Pagliero you avoid going back up the valley that culminates along the slopes of Monte Birrone, by following the ascents and descents in the direction of the villages of Scombe, Paolini and Fracchie, first on asphalt, then on a forest track. Cross the hamlet of Fracchie and, after leaving the cluster of houses, avoid turning at the first fork towards the Droneretto valley. Follow the asphalt downhill for a short stretch and take the shaded path on the right that slowly reaches the villages of Robbio Superiore and Inferiore. When you arrive here, you must lookout for the panoramic path on the right that cuts through the slopes of Monte Rubbio. The particularly sunny exposure of the first stretch of the path is a complete contrast to the descent to Camoglieres, which is shadier and more wooded. The little chapel of San Bernardo unexpectedly appears before reaching the end of the stage.
Attractions
The Chapel of St. Peter is a building dating back to the 13th century where four spires and a small bell tower stand out. Of particular importance is the decoration of the lower register that runs along the walls; here an unknown painter, probably local, from the late fifteenth century, depicted a Dance Macabre. This figure, of French and Nordic origin, is very rare in Piedmont: for now only the one of the Church of San Martino in Saluzzo, in which only two figures remain, is known.
