Highlights and tour details
From the Church of the Madonna del Carmine in Quarzina (1332 m) climb up a small asphalt road towards Biranco and Rifugio Valcaira as far as the first hairpin bend to the right, where you take a dirt road with a good terrain that branches off to the left. At a visible bifurcation, ignore the right fork to Rifugio Valcaira and continue on the left to the few houses of Biranco (1463 m, 0.30 hours). At the entrance of the hamlet, shortly after a shrine and a fountain (sometimes dry), turn left on a downhill mule track. Descending slowly, you cut through terraced slopes until you reach a dirt road that you cross and after a short descent and crossing a stream, you enter among the houses, now reduced to ruins of Merea (1227 m, 1.30 hours). A grassy dirt road takes you up to Fasce (1242 m, 1.45 hours), a small but pretty village. After passing Fasce and crossing Rio Borgosozzo on two concrete bridges, pass through the few ruins of Case Pollaio and you come to a fork in the road. Proceed slightly downhill in the beech wood on the left. Ignoring the various forks (including those for Caccino and Logne), the dirt road leads to a small, asphalt road just above the houses of Pornassino (1232 m, 2.30 hours). Going up to the right you reach the houses of Pian del Fò (1310 m, 2.50 hours) then, again at a hairpin bend between the houses of the hamlet, leave the asphalt road and go straight on along the dirt track. Leave the dirt track almost immediately to follow a path on the left full of herbaceous vegetation. In the wood the path becomes visible once more and goes down to the watershed of Rio Bianco. You cross it on a wooden bridge and go up again on the opposite bank. Still inside the wood, you reach the locality of Casa Bruciata, the place of a recent building, where you go onto a cart track. Follow it until you reach the small asphalt road that connects Viozene with Cuchera. The small road, which you follow to the right on the flat, arrives a little further on, in the road coming from Toria. Follow it downhill and you will soon reach the village of Viozene (1245 m. 3.30 hours).
