Highlights and tour details
From Rifugio Gaspare Oberto-Paolo Maroli you quickly climb up along a path and steps set into the rock to Passo del Moro, with its characteristic golden Madonnina (Virgin Mary), and from here you start the long descent into Swiss territory. You reach the Mattmark reservoir, which you follow on the left to the dam; cross the dam and continue downhill passing through Eienalp and Bord to Saas Almagel.
Attractions
A wonderful panoramic view on the east wall of Monte Rosa and the 4000 m of Valle di Saas, Mattmark lake and dam (the largest earth dam throughout Europe), Walser architecture and culture in Valle di Saas, church of Saas Almagel with works by the Antronese sculptor Giulio Gualio (17th century). The golden statue of the Madonna delle Nevi stands out on the Moro Pass.

Access
By car: A8 motorway from Milan or A4 motorway from Torino and continuation on A26 motorway for Gravellona Toce. Continue on SS33 del Sempione to the Piedimulera exit. From Piedimulera the SS 549 of Valle Anzasca goes up as far as Macugnaga.
