Highlights and tour details

Always following the appropriate trail signs with brown arrows and the wording Stockalperweg (trail sign no. 90), start to descend from Passo del Sempione (Simplon Pass) always keeping to the valley floor, more or less distant from the cantonal road. You pass the loaliHiwe villages, with the hospice commissioned by Baron Stockalper, then continue to Nideralp, Chiusmatte, Engiloch. On a beautiful mule track that runs alongside the main road you cross the pastures of Maschihus and come to Egga and then Simplon Dorf. From here the trail descends to Gabi and at Alte Kaserme (museum of the history of transport along the Sempione) an exciting route with metal footbridges and high bridges over the narrow Gondo Gorge begins. You cross the military fort of Gondo and finally reach Gondo, at the Italian/Swiss border.Always following the appropriate trail signs with brown arrows and the wording Stockalperweg (trail sign no. 90), start to descend from Passo del Sempione (Simplon Pass) always keeping to the valley floor, more or less distant from the cantonal road.
