Highlights and tour details

From the Pian Muné hiking refuge, head east, descending alongside the Vivaio ski lift, to take the dirt road that leads to Croce Tournour. After passing a fire-fighting reservoir, the road encircles the entire slope by crossing a series of depressions, passing through a water supply, crossing a small ridge and continues further on more open ground, providing a beautiful view of the first half of the just completed route. You ignore the downhill dirt track just further on which, passing through small groups of huts scattered along the ridge (Gias Chiabré, Meire Preina, Saret, etc...) leads to the valley bottom, upstream of the hamlet of Erasca di Paesana. It continues on sloping ground until reaching Croce Tournour (approx. 1555 m - trigonometric summit), a place where there is a 360° view over the majestic Monviso group, over the valley floor and the Saluzzo plain. You remain on the dirt road that continues on sloping ground among small groups of trees and wide meadows, until you look out over the Oncino side of the Orizzonte Monviso ring which, at this point, and for a long stretch, offers an excellent view of the surrounding peaks,. You are in the locality of Rocca delle Formiche (approx. 1560 m) where you ignore the fork to the left at the junction - which runs along the opposite side of the ridge you reached and ends under the rocky rampart that supports the picturesque amphitheatre where the Lauset lakes are located - to continue on the dirt road that begins to constantly descend on less consistent ground along open grassy slopes. After passing a narrow hairpin bend to the right, the descent continues pleasantly between birch trees, passing just above the Meire del Giaset (about 1460 m – ignore the fork to the left that descends to the huts) and further on to another hairpin bend to the left. After about a hundred metres, you will reach a crossroads: ignore the track on the right that leads to Rocca di Serra la Boula, to follow the one on the left that goes slightly uphill alongside a mountain hut, and shortly afterwards reaches another crossroads along sloping ground. Ignoring the dirt road that comes from upstream (Meire del Giaset) you continue on a slight descent in the open countryside, until you reach a mainly wooded area with a more sustained slope, characterised by the presence of numerous hairpin bends (10 in total). The route, which is windier and with uneven ground, has a couple of forks at the end: ignore the first one slightly uphill to the left and the second one just below on the flat, which leads to the Biatonnet basin and the isolated little church of Madonna della Neve. Keeping to the main route, continue in a slightly south-westerly downhill direction, constantly flanking a covered channel used for hydroelectric purposes on the left for a long stretch, until you reach the bed of the Rio Frassaia where the intake work is located (approx. 1260 m). Once over the bridge, the dirt road passes on the opposite side, and with a series of ascents and descents, it passes by an area with a rocky left side (loc. Meire di Pinfol). Going slightly downhill you reach and cross the ruined centre of Ciapitur (approx. 1235 m) and remaining on an almost flat terrain, you reach the hamlet of Serre di Oncino, coming out on the side of the church of Sant'Anna (approx. 1225 m).
