From the Massero Refuge (2082 m.), passing through the Alp of Fornetto and Chignolo along a comfortable trail, you descend to Alp Selva Bruna where a regulated traffic road begins, first cement then paved, that leads to Carcoforo. In this small village, you can visit the Museum of the Alta Valsesia Nature Park, ancient Walser houses and lovely churches. Furthermore, there are large car parks, picnic areas, and sports facilities. The Saleè crag is also available for those who want to climb. After crossing the village of Carcoforo, you start to climb the Egua valley following the GTA route, reaching Alp Piovale with the Boffalora P. Majerna Refuge, then Alps Egua and Sellette to col d'Egua (2245 m) close to which the Volpone – Sesone bivouac was recently set up. From col d'Egua descend into an area which is geographically in Valsesia, val Mastallone, but administratively belongs to the municipalities of the Anzasca valley (VCO); along an easy trail you reach Alp Selle. Here you quickly reach the hill of Baranca with the possibility to admire the lake of Baranca and the remains of Villa Aprilia (owned by Vincenzo Lancia, founder of the homonymous car manufacturer and native of Fobello) destroyed in the last war. You walk along the left bank of the lake that terminates with a narrow rock threshold, and then on a lovely mule track you descend to the Baranca Refuge (1600 m) where you can spend the night.
