Outdoor activities for every season.

cuneo

The geological history of the Cuneo Alps, the radial arrangement of the valleys, the climate influenced by the proximity of the Ligurian Sea, are some of the factors that have contributed to the creation of an endless variety of environments that range from the “dolomitic” type of the Marguareis massif to the crystalline rocks of Argentera and Monviso. This environment allows you to do outdoor activities of any kind: hiking, climbing, mountain biking, road cycling, rafting, horse riding, golf, sport fishing and winter snow sports.

From Cuneo, the eye embraces the extraordinary amphitheatre of the Ligurian, Maritime and Southern Cottian Alps, stopping on Monviso, a great summer and winter tourist attraction thanks to its 3841 m. The most popular outdoor activities in the Cuneo area are hiking, which ranges from family walks to more demanding hikes, to finish with the great crossings and cycle tourism which is divided into two great areas: road bikes and mountain bikes.

The roads of Cuneo have hosted many decisive stages of the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France thanks to the presence of alpine hills at high altitudes that are as fascinating from a landscape perspective as they are demanding from a physical one. The most popular routes are the great climbs to Colle Fauniera, with possible departures from the Stura, Grana and Maira Valleys; Colle dell’Agnello in the Varaita Valley that reaches 2,744 metres and the Colle di Sampeyre that connects the Maira Valley to the Varaita Valley.

The mountains of Cuneo are the ideal place for e-mountain bikes and standard MTB enthusiasts. One of the most picturesque routes is the Alta Via del sale, a track between Italy and France that continues in Liguria and reaches the sea at Ventimiglia or Sanremo and the Altopiano della Gardetta with its unrivalled landscapes. The MTB trail network is constantly increasing even in the protected areas of the Maritime Alps, a fascinating natural park where you can easily come across chamois and ibexes while pedalling along the ancient mule tracks.

The hiking routes include the Curnis Auta: a ring route which surrounds the Grana Valley connecting it with the Maira Valley to the north and the Stura Valley to the south, with continuous changes in landscapes and interesting for its naturalistic and historical features. The high-altitude routes in Cuneo are joined by more accessible tracks of lowland or medium mountain trails which allow to discover the territory in its authenticity together with the numerous typical products which come together in the traditional dishes served in the typical alpine inns.
