From Rifugio Mondovì Havis de Giorgio you go back to the crossroads for Passo delle Saline just beyond the Gias Pra Canton. When the road forks shortly afterwards, take the one to the right. The road continues for a long time on a flat road and twice fords the watercourse that runs along the valley bottom. Just beyond Gias Pra Canton, the dirt road goes up a rocky cliff and reaches the fork on the right with the path to Passo delle Saline. Take the path and go up to the plateau above. Marker posts guide you through the meadows and outcropping rocks. The path (still with marker posts in the alpine meadows) bends to the right and rises to a meadow basin. You climb back up the steep slope (inappropriate shortcuts) that leads to Passo delle Saline (2177 m). At the pass, you ignore the two paths: on the right to Cima delle Saline and on the left to Mongioie, and you go down quite steeply into the Vallone delle Saline, among rounded slopes and grassland basins. Beyond the renovated Gias delle Saline, the landscape changes drastically. In fact, you enter the narrow Gola delle Saline gorge, enclosed between steep walls of calcareous rocks, which you pass by moving to the orographic left. Outside the gorge you cut down a detrital slope, then, entering the wood, you leave the short diversion on the right to the Rifugio Carlo Bossi (1526 m). A little further on you reach the ruins of Tetti delle Donzelle (1516 m). At the junction near the ruins, turn left onto the wide path that reaches Colla di Carnino (1594 m) through a beautiful pine wood. You continue on the opposite side of the modest crossing, on a slight downhill slope, and you pass the stream that flows through the Vallone delle Fuse on a suspended bridge (if it is not fit to cross, use the path on the left just before the bridge). Once you have gone a few bends, you resume the path along the hillside. Ignore the path on the right to Viozene and climb slowly back up: you leave the wood and continue on level ground on a sunny grassy ridge. When you reach the wide plateau of Pian Rosso you take a dirt road, following it to the left to reach Rifugio Mongioie (1550 m).
