Highlights and tour details

From Viola St Gree, the arrival point of stage 3A, you continue to climb along a dirt road until you reach the locality of "Pietra della Madonna" at 1550 m above sea level, where an ancient apparition of the Madonna took place; there is a small votive altar in the stone. From here you enter the "Conca di Prato Rotondo" and once you have crossed the source area of the Mongia stream, you arrive in Prato Rotondo after about a 3.5 km hike: it is a considerably large grassy plateau at altitudes between 1500 and 1600 metres and the site of some summer mountain pasture facilities. The stage continues on the ancient connecting road between Prato Rotondo and Colle di Casotto to descend again to Colle di Casotto - Loc. Accampamento (1377 m a.s.l.) which is reached after about 4 km, leaving Bric Mondino (1853 m) to the west. From here, after skirting the structures of the Garessio 2000 ski lifts, take the path that leads to the Castle of Casotto, an ancient mule track that runs parallel to Rio Crosa and further down the Provincial Road SP178 connecting Garessio and Pamparato. After about 2 km the path reaches the Castle of Casotto and, skirting the Casotto stream, it first reaches the Correria of the Castle and then the village of Valcasotto (1000 m).
