Highlights and tour details
Particularly charming ring route on paved and unpaved consortium tracks. You start from the Varzo railway station. Take the road that leads to the centre of the town, with the beautiful Church dedicated to Saint George and the medieval Tower, then climb to the hamlet of Cattagna and from there take the road that climbs to the Oratory of Durogna. From here, touching Casafranchi and Casagrande, you reach Dreuza (alternatively, Dreuza is reached on a paved road that passes through Coggia) From Dreuza, the consortium track continues with numerous hairpin bends as far as Solcio and to the excellent Crosta Refuge. Immediately behind the refuge, take the unpaved track that takes to Alp Quatè and Alp Moiero with a few up and down sections. In Moiero, continue along the consortium track that immediately returns to being paved and descends to Dorcia. Then, with several very steep hairpin bends, you meet the provincial road Varzo-San Domenico. From here to Gebbo, you can descend along the provincial road or take a short cut by travelling the hairpin bends along the old mule track that passes through San Bernardo. From Gebbo, return to Varzo along the provincial road.
