Highlights and tour details
The itinerary is a ring-route over 8 stages, through the municipalities of Angrogna, Bobbio Pellice, Rora', Torre Pellice and Villar Pellice for a total length of about 120 km. It is a hiking trail of high naturalistic and environmental value that can be accessed from each of the municipalities concerned, as well as left to reach the centre of the individual villages, where to find answers to questions of a historical and cultural nature and stay in the accommodation facilities to taste the typical local products. Many of these paths are in fact strongly connected with local history: the Waldensian history of which these mountains have been the scene for centuries, the connections with France to ensure commercial exchange, and the Resistance during the Second World War. The mountain environment with its agricultural vocation, also characterised by little contact with the cities and the plain, has favoured the permanence of ancient traditional and cultural aspects. The popular traditions, the customs, the way of living and relating with the surrounding environment have ancient origins, and the cultural, religious and linguistic variety of the territory translates into a heritage of traditions that makes these valleys a land very rich in forms of expression. There are several museums in the area that testify to the various aspects that have characterised the culture of the valleys.
The itinerary, which is mostly on GTA trails, and others in the Piedmont Region hiking network, is connected at several points with long and medium distance routes registered in the National Trail Register, with cross-border itineraries, and with thematic routes that last a few hours, which have a clear educational purpose, are well equipped, suitable for all, and have functional accommodation areas.
