Highlights and tour details

From Ronco, near the Rest Home for the Elderly, follow the signs for Nivolastro and you will be on the mule track that climbs steeply through the larch and spruce woods, initially along the brook and then on rocky crag with a vast panorama over the entire valley. You then cross the hamlet of Nivolastro in a northerly direction until meeting the path that descends to Chiapetto on the right. Keeping to the left, continue through the woods, initially uphill and then downhill to the Chiapetto stream where, going up the opposite bank, you reach the little and now abandoned hamlet of Andorina that overlooks the main valley. The path descends steeply from the hamlet to the Provincial Road, where you reach the hamlet of Chiesale after a few hundred metres on asphalt. From Chiesale the path goes along the steep left orographic slope of Valle di Campiglia through interesting beech woods with majestic specimens. Here you can see small clearings that interrupt the slope, where charcoal pits were once made. The landscape now opens up, having reached the small Campiglia basin, with a view of the upper Valle di Campiglia, towards Piano dell'Azaria. Here you go slightly downhill and you can reach the hamlet of Campiglia with a footbridge. After going back up the pastures in front of Campiglia, on the left bank, the path starts climbing again up the slope and soon reaches Case Pugnon, where it joins the path that goes up to San Besso after having followed the first part of the track to Azaria. Along the path you will come across some votive chapels, linked to the route to the Sanctuary of S. Besso. Rifugio Bausano near the Sanctuary in San Besso is a stop-off point.
