Highlights and tour details

Follow the country lane from Piamprato to the chair lift, pass the junction for Colle della Borra and continue along the track, taking in a few hairpin bends to skirt Grange Prariond and then continue, ignoring the diversion on the right that goes up to the ski lifts, to a small car park at an altitude of 1730 m. From here continue along the path through a larch wood to reach the pastures of Grange Ciavanassa. Once you reach Grange Ciavanassa (1815 m), go around it on the right. Walk along the edge of a larch wood to reach a second building (1865 m) and then turn left towards the Rio della Reale stream. After going up the slope on the hydrographic left, you will pass under a rock wall and then come out in a wide glacial valley where, on the hydrographic right, you will find Grange la Reale (2096 m) that you reach by crossing the Rio and then going up the meadows as far as the alpine pasture.                            Resuming the climb up the meadows, you reach the upper part of the valley, which becomes much wider. Upstream of the path, there is an old silver-lead and chalcopyrite mine that was worked in ancient times. At the bottom of the little nival valley, the path bends to the right and, after crossing the Rio, starts climbing again to get a glimpse of Lago La Reale on the right. From Colle Larissa it is possible to descend to Rifugio Dondena (2196 m) in Valle d'Aosta in the municipality of Champorcher along path no. 6, which follows the remaining sections of the old royal hunting road.
