The variant branches off from stage 62 to the lower lake of Valscura, which you skirt, deviating to the right and reaching the mule track that climbs over a steep rocky spur and then descends immediately into the valley behind. The road climbs again following the course of the terrain to turn into the amphitheatre dominated by Testa del Claus. After skirting a series of little stretches of water, you reach the banks of Lake Claus (2344 m). At the end of the lake at a crossroads (signs),  ignore the downhill path that leads back to Valasco and go up a slight stretch (2402 m, maximum elevation of the hike) to descend towards the screes that still separate you from the nearby Rifugio Questa (2388 m). Several hairpin bends lead us from the refuge back to the main stage along the military road of Pian del Valasco, which you go onto at an altitude of about 2000 metres.
