Highlights and tour details

A short section along the crest that from the village of the roses takes to Serravalle Langhe, from where you can connect with the Langa of Barolo and the route of the Bar to Bar.

Bossolasco is commonly called the “village of roses”. In fact, this enchanting village is decorated by hundreds of climbing roses that cling to the stone walls of the houses, like a veil to a bride.

Leaving towards Serravalle and Alba don’t miss a stop at the celebrated Fontana Azzurra. Then, shortly after, leave the provincial road; take the junction to the left that descends on a dirt road, first gently among the fields, before plunging into the wood as far as the valley between the hills and climb to the sun of the fields towards the beautiful country chapel of San Lorenzo. Here, turn right and then immediately left, on paved ground, in Pratonoero, to climb back up towards Serravalle Langhe, going right at the first dirt road junction, right again after a few kilometres on paved ground and, finally, uphill on the state road at the entrance of the village.

As the name of the place well explains, the village guards the main crest route, as well as one of the passes that crosses it from Cravanzana/Feisoglio, towards Cissone/Dogliani. It is found, at the intersection of an ancient crossroads of strategic commercial and military importance. Once equipped with a fortified fortress (of which a few basements, wells and dungeons remain), the compact and well-kept village rises on a higher hill, dominating a good part of Langa, from its 762 m asl. The village has lost the mighty castle and preserves only the lovely town hall and, above all, the Oratory of San Michele (12th century) with late 15th century frescoes and a considerable rose window made of sandstone. Don’t miss out on the magnificent view of the Alps from Via Belvedere.

A visit to the hamlet of Villa (where the second nucleus of the village was located, the first being on the Belbo of Roman origin) with the Partisan command remembered by a plaque on the first house, and the lovely Church of San Michele Arcangelo, Romanesque apse and Baroque façade, is highly recommended. Equally worthwhile is a visit to the hamlet of Bossolaschetto at the start of the route, where the solitary Church of S. Maria Maddalena remains one of the most intimate and open spaces of the entire Belbo Valley.

From Serravalle Langhe it is possible to continue the itinerary towards Albaretto della Torre or take the alternative trail which, passing through Cerreto Langhe, Arguello and Lequio Berria, rejoins the main ring at Benevello. If you wish to return to the Wine Langa from Serravalle, continue towards Roddino, crossing the area of Cissone, thereby re-joining the Bar to Bar routes, the Barbaresco-Barolo that crosses the heart of the Langa vineyards
