Highlights and tour details

The itinerary largely follows the military road of Assietta, travelling long sections of the watershed between Valle Susa and Val Chisone, with modest altitude differences. From Testa dell'Assietta descend to the homonymous Colle to climb back up Punta Gran Serin and redescend to the Caserma Gran Serin; having passed the road which descends to Alpe Arguel follow the road for Colle delle Vallette on an easy trail, to the military road just under the peak of Monte Ciantiplagna (closed to traffic) to follow it across Colle della Vecchia as far as the road which takes from Colle delle Finestre to Val Chisone. Then, climb back up the short section of paved road which reaches Colle delle Finestre (2176 m). From here, a lovely mule track leads to the town of Meana di Susa, where there is an information point at the Antico Forno of Assiere. From Meana, it is possible to descend to Susa or return to Oulx along the Trail of the Franks in the direction of Frais - Salbertrand.
