Highlights and tour details
Giovanni Battista Aime (known as Tino), important painter and sculptor from Cuneo but resident in the Susa Valley, was very attached to Gravere, in particular to the hamlet of Bastia, where he lived until his death. Three years after his death, which occurred in July 2017, the town in which he lived and gave space to his artistic flair pays tribute to him by creating the itinerary "Arte e Natura - sui passi di Tino Aime". The tourist route crosses the town of Gravere and proposes a visit to most of its hamlets, reaching the neighbouring municipalities of Chiomonte and Meana di Susa, connecting the itineraries of the Susa Valley of the Via Francigena, of Sentiero dei Franchi and of Sentiero Balcone, enjoying the accommodation facilities, stopover points, local and typical products and partners in the area. A trail that sees reproduced, on panels and stable installations, 19 works chosen among the rich production of the artist, where it will be possible to see live the same views described by the artist in the work proposed, or, as in the case of the high villages where hay making usually takes place, observe scenes of grazing, depiction of shepherds and injured people and scenes of local life. In addition to the magnificent panoramas and the peculiarities of the territory, the artistic aspect offered by the cultural vision of what Aime reproduced in his paintings will also fascinate those who venture into the woods of the three areas. It will be like looking at the world with his eyes observing the snow-clad roofs, the vegetable gardens, the ash trees, the chestnut and conifer woods often reproduced in his works. The entire route is accessible on foot or by mountain-bike, choosing different degrees of difficulty through different routes. Part of them, in the woods of Gravere and Meana, can also be travelled by disabled people, since they are characterised by a minimum altitude difference. The mid-mountain and high-altitude and long-distance hiking trails are more challenging and suitable for those with good training.
Attractions
Gravere is structured into numerous hamlets in which the architecture and local culture can be appreciated. In many of them there is a panel that represents a work by the painter Tino Aime which offers the visitor an interpretation of the territory of Gravere through the artist’s eyes. La Losa is worth a visit for its ancient Benedictine Abbey and interesting panoramic view over Val Susa and Val Cenischia.
Support points
In the Municipalites of Gravere and Chiomonte, there are B&Bs and hotels that can meet the different needs of the itinerary users. There are also several shops in the area selling local products such as honey, wine and cheese.
