Highlights and tour details
The Via dell'acqua is a long itinerary that crosses a morphologically homogeneous territory between the municipalities of Cellarengo, Ferrere, Valfenera, Villanova, Cantarana and Tigliole.
It is a territory of clayey lands, scattered with small lakes of natural origin, which for centuries have represented fundamental food and economic resources for the community; in particular the precious variety of Golden Humped Tench, which has found its natural habitat in the shallow and warm waters of Poirino. Furthermore, thanks to its success on the market, many farms have been established in recent years. In fact, the peculiarity of the area is the presence of numerous artificial or semi-artificial basins, often adjacent to villages or farmsteads, born from the need to collect rainwater for irrigation and for watering animals. Another important resource is the Blonde Hen, an oviparous breed with the prerogative of having very tender and lean meat, from which sausage products, once very common in Piedmont, are also produced. It is a popular product not only in Italy but also abroad. Of particular historical and cultural interest is the Church of San Lorenzo in Tigliole, referred to in the first stage of the itinerary, which has fine architecture of Romanesque origin and stands in a suggestive and panoramic position.
