Once we have gone down to the Cervo stream, we cross it in the locality of Asmara. We then go up to Mortigliengo, continuing through a mixed fir and beech wood towards Bariola. From here it is better to reach Driagno by the asphalt road if there is heavy rain, otherwise we continue on the path to face the challenging ford of the Rivazza stream. We take the steep path from Driagno that leads to a panoramic hillock called "il Belvedere". We continue as far as some ruined huts and the Orio delle Vigne chapel, surrounded by the wonderful chestnut trees of the "Parco degli Arbo". We cross the village of Riabella, where the most attentive can notice some houses with dry-stone walls that border on perfection. Continuing on the wide mule track, we ford the Rio Luchiana, and after a stretch on a cartroad we reach Oneglie and turn right onto path E5, which climbs steeply towards Monte Cucco. The effort of the most demanding climb of the GtB is rewarded by the beauty of the route that awaits us along path E1, which connects the Sanctuary of San Giovanni in Valle Cervo with the Oropa Sanctuary. After an extraordinary panoramic route on the southern side of Monte Cucco we enter the forest, which we cross to reach a panoramic viewpoint, where we can admire the magnificent size of the Oropa Sanctuary, which with its Sacred Mount is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
