Highlights and tour details
The Vigezzo Valley is a unique valley of Ossola.
The valley has 15 marked pedestrian and cyclist routes which, in a small part, use cycle lanes and in part agricultural lanes or existing roads. Below is a description of the main itinerary 1 Druogno-Re Pineta route.
This is the cycling itinerary par excellence of the Vigezzo Valley because it presents an almost continuous dedicated cycle lane, except for a short section on a secondary road with little traffic before the sports field of Santa Maria Maggiore and the section that crosses the village of Malesco. The route departs from the station of Druogno and crosses the “pinewood” as far as Santa Maria Maggiore going along the foot of the slope passing the Cross-country ski centre and the sports field in Praudina. It continues, always on flat land, to cross the Loana Torrent in correspondence of the Pozzo Vecchio waterfall and then descends to the centre of Malesco. Using internal roads, you cross the village and continue eastwards to descend the wide bridge that crosses the Western Melezzo Torrent. After the bridge, take a right and go along the river as far as the bottom of the village of Re, then take the bridge over the river and go immediately left as far as the lovely stone bridge of Pozzo Maglione. From here, you can climb back up a small road until you meet the main road and finish the route at the Sanctuary of Re.
BIKE RENTAL
There is an innovative bike rental system operating in the Vigezzo Valley: Vigezzoinbici. Those who arrive to the valley by train or by car can use a bicycle to move around easily and freely.
There are 4 points in the valley, close to the railway stations of Druogno, Santa Maria Maggiore, Malesco and Re, where it is possible to pick up a bicycle using an electronic card.
The bicycle can be returned at a different place, to facilitate strong integration with other forms of transport.
