You go down from the refuge, take a dirt road on the right and, after crossing the Stura on a wooden bridge, skirt Alpe Venoni, a characteristic bergeria (sheep/goat pen) protected by an unusual large rock. Path no. 222 continues along the lower part of the Canale delle Capre to turn left and along many hairpin bends, you will quickly gain height. At about 2300 m you reach Pian dei Morti, a wide grassy pass where the view widens over the whole Pian della Mussa. Leave path no. 223 on the right that leads to Pian Gias and, first diagonally then with wide hairpin bends, you reach the base of a small rocky wall. The path goes to the right, passes a few easy rocky cliffs equipped with iron brackets and enters a very wide gully that without further difficulty leads to a small hill from which you can already see the refuge. You walk along the last flat stretch to shortly reach Rifugio Gastaldi, in a panoramic position over the wide Crot del Ciaussinè basin and the surrounding peaks. From the refuge follow the practicable path no. 222, which descends southwards into a basin where Rio Arnas flows. Go up some detrital slopes, going around Rocca Affinau on the right. You will reach some ledges and take path no. 222A in the direction of a rocky rampart, cutting through rocky slopes and large boulders. Remaining always at the base of the rampart, a last climb leads you to the vast plain of Collarin d'Arnas at 2851 m. Continue southwards on path no. 122, on vast detrital slopes with moderate gradient. You pass near Lago Collarin (2839 m) and reach the limit of the rocky rampart that closes the basin of Lago della Rossa to the north. The San Camillo Bivouac stands on the left shortly after the fork with path no. 119. Following a zigzagging track that descends to the left that is not very visible at times, you reach the ledges surrounding the lake, a short distance from the barrier. Walk along the top of the ENEL dam and continue on path no.122. First you walk along a fine detritus and earth ledge and then a second one. You go to the left to reach the foot of a cliff furrowed from right to left by a visible stone channel: go up it until there is a small detritus valley on the right. Going in this direction up scree slopes, you will reach the crossing point of Colle Altare (2901 m), marked by a small stone cairn. Descend in a south-easterly direction from the pass along a gully of scree, avoiding a rocky wall on the left. You pass not far from Lago Superiore di Pera Ciaval (2762 m). Continue going along a series of grassy ledges where there are several small lakes. Descend in the direction of a rocky rampart, furrowed by a small waterfall and reach the Rifugio Cibrario (2616 m) in Pera Ciaval.
